VAR LIVE wins Software & Apps Silver at Hong Kong ICT Awards 2019
VAR LIVE received the ICT Startup (Software & Apps) Silver Award at the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2019, marking an early milestone for its work in virtual reality software and interactive entertainment.
Recognition for software and applications
The Hong Kong ICT Awards recognise innovation across the territory’s information and communications technology sector. In 2019, the programme was steered by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, with the Rotary Club of the HUB Hong Kong organising the ICT Startup category.
The awards were presented on 4 April 2019. Cyberport’s results coverage names VAR LIVE as the Software & Apps Silver recipient, a distinction also recorded in a Hong Kong Legislative Council report later that year.
Bringing virtual experiences into physical venues
Software is central to how VAR LIVE brings a virtual world to life: it shapes the game, responds to the player and connects the experience to the equipment used in a venue.
During the same period, VAR LIVE was developing its physical entertainment presence. The 2019 Legislative Council report records a Hong Kong retail location and the launch of VAR BOX, its VR esports gaming device, in Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
A milestone in the VAR LIVE story
The Silver Award is part of that development story—recognition within the Software & Apps category as VAR LIVE brought together digital content, interactive hardware and location-based entertainment.
