VAR LIVE recognised for Best Virtual Reality Theme Park in 2019 and 2021
Two Malaysia Tourism Council Gold Awards mark milestones in VAR LIVE’s journey at MyTOWN Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur—bringing virtual worlds into a shared, physical entertainment destination.

Two milestones for the MyTOWN experience
VAR LIVE received the Malaysia Tourism Council Gold Award for Best Virtual Reality Theme Park in 2019 and again in 2021. The two recognitions form part of the story of its Malaysian attraction at MyTOWN Shopping Centre.
The awards are recorded in the venue’s signage, with both years and the award title displayed together. A visitor feature by Dixon Thum, published on Trip.com in October 2024, also documents the recognition and the venue.
Recognition backed by visitor engagement
Beyond the award milestones, visitor ratings offer another perspective on the VAR LIVE experience. The MyTOWN venue has received 2,694 Google reviews with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5.

A destination built around shared play
A VR attraction begins before a player puts on a headset. The entrance, themed surroundings and game displays introduce the worlds waiting inside. At MyTOWN, those physical elements bring different virtual adventures together in one place.
Tourism Malaysia featured VAR LIVE in its 2019 guide to new shopping and leisure experiences. Its coverage described the attraction’s immersive games and the combination of physical feedback, sound and visuals that supported the experience. This provides a contemporary view of how VR entertainment was becoming part of a visit to the shopping centre.

The experience behind the recognition
Physical effects that bring virtual worlds closer
VAR LIVE combines VR headsets with customised controllers and physical effects to create an experience that extends beyond the screen. Depending on the attraction, these can include weapon controllers with recoil, vibrating floor platforms, directional wind and scent effects.
These elements connect what players see and hear with physical sensations around them. A burst of wind or movement beneath their feet adds another layer to the virtual environment, making the venue itself part of the experience.
Games designed to be experienced together
The portfolio spans cooperative survival, horror, competitive action and casual play, giving different groups ways to explore VR together.
- Zombie Jail 1 & 2: Cooperative survival shooters in which teams defend a fortified position behind jail bars against waves of undead.

Zombie Jail - The Others / Horror Hospital: Haunted-house experiences combining exploration, puzzle-solving and spatial audio to build suspense.

The Others
Horror Hospital - Overkill: A high-intensity tactical shooter built around competitive player-versus-player and team encounters.

Overkill - Baby Shark VR / Island Vacation: Family-oriented, casual experiences that offer an approachable introduction to VR for new players.

A shared destination for visitors and groups
Beyond individual visits, VAR LIVE welcomes regional tourists, school groups and corporate teams in the Klang Valley. Shared challenges give participants a reason to communicate, coordinate and experience something together.
For visitors to Kuala Lumpur, the venue adds interactive entertainment to a city itinerary. For schools and companies, group visits offer a different setting for shared activities and team-building. These uses connect the attraction with the city’s wider leisure and tourism offering.
From virtual worlds to places people visit
VAR LIVE brings game content and physical venue design into the same experience. Visitors encounter the setting first, choose an adventure and then step into the virtual world together.
The 2019 and 2021 awards remain milestones in that venue’s history. Today, VAR LIVE Parks brings the wider conversation to prospective partners: how games, available space and the visitor journey can come together in a planned entertainment venue.
