VAR BOX wins the 2022 AMOA Innovator Award

Recognition at Amusement Expo International in Las Vegas marked a milestone for VAR BOX, bringing its combination of VR arcade play and connected competition to the amusement industry.

Recognition for VAR BOX

The Amusement and Music Operators Association named VAR LIVE among its 2022 Innovator Award winners for VAR BOX. The award was presented during Amusement Expo International in Las Vegas in March 2022.

The recognition places VAR BOX alongside other products recognised that year, including Stern Insider Connected, Jet Pong and Break the Plate. For VAR LIVE, it represents a milestone in bringing its VR arcade platform to the wider amusement market.

An arcade console built around connected play

VAR BOX brings a VR headset, gun controller and spectator display together in a dedicated arcade cabinet. The player enters the virtual environment while people nearby can follow the action on screen.

The experience extends beyond a single session. Player profiles, recorded results and competition features connect gameplay with progress over time, giving players ways to return, practise and take part in a wider community.

Different games, different ways to compete

Contemporary coverage of the platform highlighted Double Tap’s speed-and-accuracy challenges and Overkill’s team-based arena combat, alongside casual titles such as Blockade and Jurassic: New Era.

These formats offer different starting points: improving a score, coordinating with teammates or discovering an adventure. The cabinet provides the physical access point; the games and supporting software shape what happens next.
